From the NATE Office
All of us, at one time or another, have faced the challenge of moving an object from Point-A-To-Point-B that is not that heavy to lift, but because of its size or shape, makes an otherwise simple task much more demanding.
We all know the phrase, “I’m trying to get my arms around this” from these circumstances, and how those words have become metaphoric to dealing with elusive situations.
The NATE Safety & Education Committee has demonstrated its determination to “get its arms around” the development of an RF Awareness safety video. The challenges in making this video have been threefold:
• Assemble appropriate practical, scientific and regulatory information regarding electromagnetic energy as it applies to tower hands;
• Tailor the presentation of that information to new tower hands who know little, if anything, about the subject so they will understand the basics without being overwhelmed by the complexity of the issue; and
• Develop a video that is properly formatted to being an effective educational tool.
My congratulations to Todd Thorin and the rest of the members of the Safety & Education Committee for persevering through these challenges and developing a script for the NATE RF Awareness Video. Shooting of the video will begin in September at United States Tower Services, Ltd. in Frederick, Maryland.
I am looking forward to watching the next phases of the video unfold and the release of another safety resource for membership use. Together, we are continuing to find meaningful ways to enhance industry safety.
Getting your arms around something can be a tricky sometimes, but there is nothing like the gratification of a job well done. Although additional work remains to be accomplished, I am confident NATE members will be very pleased with this effort, slated to be completed this year.
