It is great to hear about optimism again; it has been a few long years. "It is in the air". It is a good thing, membership numbers are another sign that NATE is providing the valuable resources we need to improve our safety and daily operations.
Where our individual tower service companies have come from, we do not want to go back to. Any tower outfit that has been around more than 30 years knows exactly what I mean. But now we are all a little older and wiser, and want to move forward by making good decisions. That is another reason why so many members have survived through the good times and the not so prosperous years.
In retrospect, the vast number of NATE members are a tribute to what the members and committees have accomplished in the ten great years since our association’s inception. Safety training, contentious practice and the documentation is also what helps us protect our companies from negligence claims by whomever and whatever is around the next corner.
Yes, we are not perfect, but always striving to improve safety and equipment is a sign that every labor official looks at and recognizes when they drop in unexpectedly or by invitation. It is now a treat to show a visiting safety expert around our shops or a tower site in progress because we can now teach them several safety tricks to ensure worker safety and company compliance. That is another A+ grade for NATE because we didn't learn this safety from staying at a Holiday Inn Express.
Now I am getting off of the membership track again. Besides being a paying member, becoming an active NATE member and joining up with one of the several specialty committees which you feel you can contribute to or just want to know more about is a rewarding experience and eventually you'll get to know almost everyone. The fact that you are interested in getting involved makes you the person we want as a member, or on a committee or running for one of the Board positions which is what I am currently doing.
It is time to improve yourself and your company, and meet new people with great ideas like yours. You didn't get into the tower business by being shy, so jump on board!
I hope to see you all at the Annual NATE Conference & Exposition.
