NATE Board of Directors Candidates
The NATE voting membership will elect four individual members to the NATE Board of Directors prior to the annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, February 12 - 15, 2007.
Kari L. Carlson Chief Operating Officer Director of Operations
Tower Systems, Inc. Watertown, South Dakota Winter Park, Florida
At the annual convention in Orlando, Florida I was asked if I would consider running for the NATE Board. After some time to reflect on the possibility, I knew it was an opportunity that I could not pass by.
When people ask me how long I’ve been in the business, I always smile and say, “My entire life!” I grew up seeing first hand the risks of starting a small tower company and watching it grow into a prosperous and successful business over the course of 30+ years. During this time, I was the little girl who got paid by the box to assemble u-bolts; the young teenager who helped out in the office during the summer months; and eventually making the career choice to join the family business. I started out as the Administrative Marketing Assistant and from there I climbed the ranks to the Director of Operations, eventually to Partner and Chief Operating Officer for our SE division located in Winter Park, Florida. I currently split my time between the South Dakota and Florida branches of our company, as I’m actively involved with all aspects of running our business.
I will act as a strong, contributing Board Member by the conservative philosophies that have been instilled in me. I bring to the table a strong work ethic, combined with integrity and honesty. We need to continue first and foremost with the grass root philosophy that brought this association to fruition, “To pursue, formulate and adhere to uniform standards of safety to ensure the continued well being of tower personnel.” In addition to maintaining a unified voice for our ever changing industry, promoting safety and education for our employees continues to be my main area of focus and concern. Ultimately my goal is to be an advocate for all members, large or small.
With the alarming number of deaths recorded in our industry in recent history, I feel NATE should take action, making unilateral safety compliance a top priority. Possibly incorporating into our membership requirements an agreement to meet or exceed national safety standards.
Finally, NATE should continue to be managed by a conservative board when major fiscal decisions are presented. It is the responsibility of every Board Member to research, examine, and compare elements on how we can continue to keep NATE in a position to support our association’s endeavors.
As your representative, I would consider it an honor and a privilege to serve on the NATE Board of Directors.
Kari L. Carlson
Don Doty Vice President
Doty Moore Tower Services LLC Cedar Hill, Texas
I am again asking you to vote for me as I seek re-election to the NATE Board of Directors.
NATE has a host of difficult issues to address this year and the most important one is the number of accidents plaguing our industry. I see important opportunities for me to help guide the Board of Directors in meeting the needs and desires of the membership.
With your help, I can provide leadership on important issues you would like NATE to address and at the same time provide guidance to the new Board Members so future transitions will provide board continuity for NATE.
I want to see NATE help craft safety improvements that will be meaningful and nationwide. I will continue to work toward helping NATE stay in front on other programs to maintain national acceptance.
I pledge myself to address the critical issues that confront us all.
With your vote, I will do my very best to help you. I ask for another opportunity to serve you, the voting members of NATE.
Thank you,
Don Doty
Terry Sharp, Jr. President
Grant Tower, Inc. Grant, Michigan
I am President of Grant Tower, Inc. and my company is a Founding Member of NATE. I have served on the Board of Directors since the formation of the Association.
For me the decision to seek reelection becomes more difficult each election cycle. With two Members stepping down from the Board and the critical issues facing NATE, this did not seem like the appropriate time to step aside. I would like to announce my candidacy for reelection to the Board and would appreciate your support.
The number of accidents has made this a very challenging year for our industry. The demographics of those accidents are equally concerning; experienced seasoned tower hands have needlessly been lost. The Board’s most urgent responsibility is to implement programs to curb this alarming trend. I look forward to working with the members and my fellow board members to develop and implement additional safety awareness programs. I am happy with NATE’s achievements to date, but realize we still have great work ahead of us. I would be honored to have your support to continue our efforts on the National Partnership. I feel I give balance to this process always feverously fighting for what is best for our members first and foremost. I am excited to continue as co-chair of the Michigan Communication Tower Advisory Committee. This committee has been tasked with the development of tower standards for our industry in the State of Michigan. The results are also likely to carry national implications. I also look forward to my responsibilities as Secretary/Treasurer of our Association and overseeing the investment of the Association’s funds. I do not take these responsibilities lightly. Strong leadership and good stewardship is more important than ever.
I have thoroughly enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors. It would be an honor to continue to serve the membership. I would appreciate your support and vote.
Thank you,
Terry Sharp
