From the NATE Office
As I write my November article, my thoughts briefly jump ahead to the rapidly approaching holiday season. I know this sounds cliché, but the years really do keep going faster and faster. Before the chance slips away, let me be among the first to wish every NATE member a Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving serves a number of purposes in my life, besides the opportunity for over-consumption of food and football. Having time set aside for family and friends seems more rare, and therefore more valuable, with each new season. It has taken me time, but I have learned the importance of feeling a genuine sense of gratitude. NATE is certainly on the list of what I am grateful for each year. The opportunity to work with good people to achieve something bigger than we could ever accomplish alone is a tremendous gift. I am humbled by the dedication to making a difference that I have witnessed in my coworkers, the NATE Board of Directors, NATE’s committees and NATE members in general.
This year in particular we have been confronted with circumstances that make us wish we could have done more, and we will continue to find ways to increase our efforts toward safety. But let us not forget the dramatic impact NATE members have had on expanding the culture of safety in our industry. Remember that your involvement in the Association has helped save lives.
This holiday season, take a minute to think of all the tower workers who have gone home safely to their families at the end of the day. Be thankful for your role in that very simple -- and yet immensely profound -- event. Someone coming home safe at the end of the day; when it comes right down to it, that is what it is all about. Yes we have more to do, but especially at this time of the year, don’t forget to be grateful for what we have all done together. It will re-energize us for the work that lies ahead.
On behalf of Paula, Carol, Deb, Shelly, Corene and Jodi at the NATE office, I wish you all a Happy -- and Safe -- Thanksgiving.
