NOTICE Important Information Regarding the NATE PERSONNEL HOISTING VIDEOTAPE (Video #2)
The NATE Board of Directors recently reviewed the Personnel Hoisting videotape for content. During the review process, the Board determined that although the narration of the riding the line process is in compliance with OSHA CPL 2-1.29, some of the corresponding video may inadvertently provide a less than complete demonstration of the techniques that are being described.
The videotape explains that the headache ball must have a locking keeper on the hook. However, the videotape does not demonstrate the process of locking that device as the technicians connect their positioning lanyards to the hook.
Also, although the video clarifies through text on the screen that positioning lanyards are not to be considered fall protection, the tower technicians riding the line are not shown attaching their personal safety lanyards above the headache ball prior to the lift.
NATE recommends you discontinue the use of the videotape and return it to NATE immediately. If you choose to continue using the tape against NATE’s recommendations, it is essential that you specifically inform your viewers of these requirements.
A revised version of the Personnel Hoisting videotape is currently in production and is expected to be completed soon. All companies who previously purchased the NATE Personnel Hoisting videotape will be provided with an updated version FREE OF CHARGE.
