From the NATE Office
September always reminds me of how fast time is passing. Another year of school is underway for my children. Another football season has begun. And although the calendar still says summer, the initial signs that autumn is starting to move in are becoming apparent.

Time flies by for us all. Further proof of this modern axiom was the completion of yet another NATE Summer Meeting last month. The Summer Meeting is different from our annual event in that it is strictly a time for the Board of Directors and Committees to meet and conduct business. On behalf of the Association, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all those NATE members who volunteer their time to serve in these crucial capacities. They provide the technical backbone, expertise and vision that have made NATE a success.

This month also marks a number of deadlines in the NATE office. By the time this article is published, NATE will know the candidates who are running for the Board of Directors for next year -- although the final list will not be printed until October. The new Board will be seated at the 8th Annual NATE Conference & Exposition. I en-courage all NATE Voting Members to participate in this year’s election by returning your ballots to the NATE office on time this fall.

Perhaps the most significant deadline this month is that for renewing NATE memberships. September 30 marks the date established in the NATE bylaws for the expiration of memberships that have not paid their annual dues.

NATE has accomplished so much in the last seven years. The safety materials NATE has made available have created a new level of safety in the industry. Even OSHA recognizes the NATE Accident Preven-tion, Safety and Health Program Guide as a benchmark of industry safety. Positive regulatory changes; a partnership with OSHA; the conferences, educational sessions and a trade show that are part of NATE’s annual event; access to insurance for NATE members; and NATE’s "Strong Voice in Washington" are among the Association’s successes.

Those items and more were made possible by NATE members. Whether you are participating on a NATE Committee or doing your part by sending in your dues, you are making a difference. Not only in the continued expansion of benefits available to you as a member, but in the way the tower erection, service and maintenance industry is viewed by both government regulators and the private sector as well.

Continue making a difference in this industry. If you have not renewed your membership for 2002/2003, please do so today. If you have, please accept my thanks on behalf of the entire association.

As a reminder, all NATE member companies in good standing who have previously purchased the NATE Accident Prevention, Safety and Health Program Guide will be provided with a free replacement copy of the revised safety program upon release.

Thank you again for supporting your association. The NATE Board of Directors, Committees and Administrative Staff look forward to continuing our work together this year in support of the tower erection, maintenance and service industry.
