Chairman’s Message
For those of you who are reading this article for the first time at NATE 2003, I say "welcome to the show!" I couldn’t be more pleased with the projected turn-out based on early registration numbers. The annual NATE trade show has become a standing tradition for a wide variety of tower professionals to assemble and be educated, as well as to network and spend some relaxing time getting to know each other. I hope your experience at this year’s show will be as interesting and beneficial as has been true with the terrific shows in the past.

This marks the eighth year of existence for our young but strong association. A lot of water has passed under the bridge in our industry in the past eight years. Some of your companies were not in existence when we held the first NATE meeting in Dallas in 1995. But thanks to your wisdom and foresight, you are all members of the Association today making us nearly 600 members strong! What an accomplishment for such a relatively small industry in such a short amount of time. I’m not sure anyone knows how many companies across the nation are engaged in service and construction of towers, but I suspect that NATE represents at least two-thirds of the total. You are to be commended for being a part of this elite group of tower professionals.

I was impressed with the turn-out of NATE member companies during a recent visit to a regional OSHA meeting where partnership issues were being discussed. Although the meeting held an open invitation to all tower companies, every erector in attendance was a NATE member. The OSHA official conducting the meeting commented that he was disappointed that more non-NATE companies were not represented. What he may not have realized was that NATE companies are the crème de le crème of this industry and the leaders in issues involving worker safety. Although we invite all who share our goals to join the Associa-tion, most companies who have this same interest are already members of NATE. We may not appeal to every tower service company in the country, but we count the best in the business as members of this Association.

Once again, I want to thank you all for being part of NATE. I want to particularly thank the many support member companies that have weathered the storm of the past year and come to the show to display their wares. May your efforts bear the fruits of success at this show and throughout the coming year.

For those of you who are reading this article in advance of NATE 2003, I look forward to seeing you in Dallas!
