Chairman’s Message
Next month most of us will find ourselves again at NATE’s annual conference and exposition. For the first time we will meet in Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital of the world. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve always been a fan of country music. I’m looking forward to seeing the sites and hearing the sounds of the birthplace of one of our country’s most endearing musical styles. I encourage you to make your plans to be at NATE 2004 in February and enjoy what is sure to be another terrific event.
This month is the start of a new year. I suspect by now most of you have noticed the positive turn-about in the tower marketplace. Although the increase in business has not been dramatic, it has been noticeable. I predict that 2004 will be a much better year than either 2002 or 2003. Those of you who have endured the difficult times of the past couple years will hopefully be rewarded for your patience and long suffering.
At my company we have taken advantage of the lull in business the last couple years to tighten our belts and improve our processes. One of the critical improvements has come by way of re-emphasis on safety. I would hope that with an increase in business that is likely to come, members of NATE and our industry in general would not get sloppy in the exercise of good judgment regarding worker safety. Pressures will always be there from our customers demanding quicker job turn-around and more output, but this should NOT come at the expense of worker safety. If we all stick together on this, the industry will adapt to what I believe to be a highly desirable culture of safety.
I’ll leave you this month by quoting a notable poem and one of my personal mottos:
Stick to your task until it sticks to you, Beginners are many but enders are few. Honor, power, place and praise, Will always come to the one who stays.
Stick to your task until it sticks to you, Bend at it, sweat at it, smile at it too. For out of the bend and the sweat and the smile, Will come life’s victories, after awhile.

Until next month, BE SAFE.
