From the NATE Office
The July 4th holiday is upon us once again. America’s birthday is always one of my favorite celebrations, and fireworks are among my greatest joys associated with the day. Over my years at NATE I have noticed that there seems to be a natural connection between tower technicians and pyrotechnic displays, and I am sure many of you will be involved in varying degrees of these festivities wherever you are. Enjoy the holiday, but be mindful of the hazards inherent in fireworks and take appropriate precautions. Have a safe and happy Independence Day!

When I think of the Fourth of July, my mind inevitably turns to our nation’s leaders. I’m sure we all take our turn complaining about the government, but we also realize that the right to openly voice dissatisfaction about our leaders is a remarkable privilege that many people in the world do not have. And to take this one step further, we Americans have the right to participate in how the rules are made – from writing a letter to a Congressman to becoming the Congressman if that is what you want to do. That is one of the many beauties of our nation – we are free to actively, openly pursue change.

For the last three years, many NATE members exercised their freedom to become involved in the North Carolina Department of Labor’s tower rulemaking effort. These NATE members volunteered their time on committees and have helped out wherever they could in educating government officials on the realities facing tower climbers. I want to thank them all for their efforts on behalf of the Association.

By the time the July Tower Times reaches your hands, the North Carolina Communications Tower Standard will most likely be on its way to publication for public comment. The NATE Legisla-tive & Regulatory Committee has been active in developing plans for the next phases of this document’s future, not to mention NATE’s involvement in the national tower erection standard now under development through ACCSH.

There is no denying the results of having an established association ready to address issues facing the industry. This year in particular,
the challenges facing NATE and the industry are among the greatest ever.

We are currently in the midst of NATE’s annual membership renewal. If you have not renewed your membership, please take the time to do so today. If you know other companies in the industry who are not NATE members, encourage them to join. NATE has the opportunity to accomplish more this year than in any year previous, but we need you. Take advantage of your opportunity to participate in the decisions that will affect your company’s future. Renew your membership in NATE today and be a part of the unified voice of our industry.

Have a Happy Fourth of July, everyone! Have fun, and stay safe!
